Gold Medal Flour teamed up with the Mill City Farmer’s Market to sponsor the 4th Annual Bread Festival! We had a beautiful sunny day at the Market which is perched on the banks of the Mississippi River in the historic milling district of Minneapolis, in the shadows of the landmark original Gold Medal Flour mill.
In addition to the great local, fresh produce available at the market, Bread Festival celebrates the best of bread making. Local celebrity bakers Zoe Francois and Jeff Hertzberg were on hand for a pizza baking demonstration complete with an outdoor oven provided by Lorenzo’s Ovens.
And we were so excited to sponsor the marquee event, the Bread Baking Contest. A fantastic team of judges, including Steve Horton from Rustica Bakery and Sun Street Breads’ Solveig Tofte evaluated the submissions under two categories: Quick Breads and Yeasted Breads.
Prizes were awarded to first, second and third place winners and, for the first time, an honorable mention was awarded to one recipe in each category for best use of wholesome ingredients!
The first place winners were:
Quick Breads – Grand Champion Pumpkin Bread by Candace Freeman
Yeast Breads – Whole Wheat Bread by Jonathan Kaye
Congratulations to all our winners and thanks again to the Mill City Farmer’s Market for putting on Bread Festival and celebrating with Gold Medal Flour!
